Product Description
Where lid and base cardboard boxes are used
Direct-to-consumer shipping where the carton is the first physical thing the customer touches: ceramics, glassware and bottles in cut inserts, small appliances and electronics, tools and hardware, candles, textile and knitwear sets, and keepsake or storage packs a customer keeps after the product is out.
The format is also used for bulk retail packs that open on the counter - the base holds the product, the lid comes off and the box stays as the display. Where the same unit has to ship and display, the lid is cut deeper so it squares up a stack of cartons on a pallet.
Corrugated grade and load behaviour
Cardboard is chosen against weight and stacking, not looks. E-flute carries a light retail pack, B-flute handles a courier parcel, and BC double-wall is specified where cartons stack on a pallet or the contents are dense. A litho-printed face laminated onto the flute gives shelf-grade graphics without giving up the burst strength underneath.
The telescoping lid is the structural point: an overlap flange of 15mm - 25mm keeps the lid square under compression, and the base corners carry the load, so insert design and flute direction are set together. Foam, corrugated cells or moulded pulp hold the product off the wall, and a die-cut handle or a tear strip can be added on the same tooling.
Why custom lid and base cardboard boxes from CRIIO
CRIIO sizes the box around the packed weight and the drop it has to survive. We specify flute, liner grade and insert depth against your product and quantity, then prove the slide fit and the stacking behaviour on a physical sample before platemaking.
Cartons ship flat and assemble in seconds with no taping of the lid, which is where the freight and labour saving sits compared with a rigid pack. Base height, lid depth, flute and print are specified separately, so a heavier SKU moves up one board grade without a new die.
