Product Description
What folding carton food boxes are used for
Granola and muesli pouches, protein bar cartons, meal-replacement sachets, vitamin and supplement kits, dried fruit and nut packs, tea and coffee sample sets — any shelf-ready or DTC food product that ships flat but opens like a retail pack. The carton holds multiple SKUs inside a single outer print surface, so subscription brands and snack lines can run one outer die with different interior pouches.
For cereal and bakery confectionery applications, this carton competes with rigid boxes on the shelf while beating them on freight. If your product needs a corrugated outer for heavy fill, we can nest the folding carton inside, otherwise the folding carton alone handles single-unit DTC.
Board grade, closure and food safety
White-back SBS is the default where the back panel also prints, and CCNB with a grey back is used where cost is the priority. Board stays light — 300g to 350g — because the food contents are low weight and the case has to stack through a supermarket or courier chain. All board we specify carries FSC certification where requested and meets FDA 21 CFR 176.170 for direct food contact.
The tuck-top auto-bottom (1-2-3 bottom) is the workhorse closure: it locks without adhesive on the assembly line, and the tuck flap on top holds through a mailer drop. Compare this to a drawer box or book-style carton — those carry more perceived value for premium ranges, while the tuck-top auto-bottom is built for scale.
Why custom folding carton food boxes from CRIIO
CRIIO sizes the carton to your pouch or bar first, then adds the board thickness and the seal clearance. We plan the print around the dieline so the facts table, logo and callout never land on a fold or crease, and we confirm the tuck and lock behaviour on a physical sample before the full run.
One tooling carries the range — the same carton with a different print sleeve or an added insert tray covers new flavours, and starting quantities stay low enough for a launch and a reorder on the same specification. For food and beverage brands moving into retail for the first time, this is the lowest-risk route to a printed carton that passes both shelf and courier tests.
Materials and finish options
Board grades run from 250g kraft for eco-lines to 350g SBS for premium print, with CCNB as the cost-workhorse in between. Print is offset CMYK, finished with aqueous matte or gloss varnish — heavy barrier coatings are avoided on direct food contact. Spot UV, foil and emboss are available but we recommend them only on the top panel where a mailer drop will not catch them.
